Episode 04: Let’s talk about DEBT with Wise Woman Wallet

Sing it with me now, “Let’s talk about DEBT baby”! Even more important – let’s talk about about getting rid of it!! In this week’s episode, we’re talking to Miss Wise, on Instagram @wisewomanwallet – all the way from China.

Miss Wise has crushed some serious debt and saved a sizable reserve while living in China and she plans to be debt free in 2020. She’s almost there! We hear why she moved to China to get out of debt and in addition, some of the things she has unlearned about money and how that can help you too.

And no surprise – we also talk about money mindset!! Almost makes you want to move to China right? Finally, it’s no surprise her three words were options, giving and travel.

Please also share the show with your friends! Of course, we’d love for you to subscribe, rate and review us too! And certainly, let us know what topics you want to hear. You probably want to sing this one more time – “Let’s talk about DEBT!” and let’s get it paid off!

Bio

Miss Wise is a millennial English teacher in China who’s trying to live up to her last name. She started shredding debt in earnest on January 1, 2017. She had a couple medical bills, 3 credit card balances, undergrad loans and grad school loans totaling around $53,000. As of July 15, 2018,  25 percent of the debt has been eliminated. Yay! Only grad school loans remain.

Like many folks, Miss Wise grew up with parents who didn’t impart much personal financial knowledge to her. Maybe it’s because they didn’t know much, which she understands. She created this site to chronicle her journey to financial enlightenment and provide tips and resources to other debt-saddled folks. There’s no reason why we should all make the same money mistakes.

Interesting facts about Miss Wise:

  • Never turns down dessert. Never!
  • She’s a North Carolina native who has visited 5 out of the 7 continents.
  • Can speak Spanish conversationally thanks to a semester abroad in Sevilla, Spain.
  • Moved to China in September 2016.
  • Sold her car back to CarMax less than 12 hours before she boarded her first flight to China, killing $11,000 in debt (not included in the $53,000 total mentioned above.)
